Xavier Yvon: “Kurdistan”, we therefore take the direction of the Middle East. Our specialist in the region is Hamdam Mostafavi, deputy editor of L’Express, hello Hamdam!
Hamdam Mostafavi : Hi Xavier!
Xavier Yvon : When we hear about Kurdistan, there is almost always an adjective behind it, “Iraqi Kurdistan” or “Syrian Kurdistan” for example. So we’re not talking about a country?
Hamdam Mostafavi : It’s a nation without a state, to sum up. It is not a country but a mountainous settlement area, the Kurds have the same culture, the same religion, they speak two dialects but which are very similar. They are divided between four countries: eastern Turkey, northern Syria, northern Iraq and western Iran.
