Xavier Yvon: Do you know Moore’s Law? If you are a faithful listener to the Magnifying Glass, you remember that it was already briefly mentioned in an episode on ChatGPT. It is on this concept that I would like to stop to start this episode. Moore’s Law dates back to the mid-1960s, it comes to us from Gordon Moore, co-founder of the Intel company, which manufactures microprocessors, and here is his prediction: at constant prices, the number of electronic chips will double every year … More simply, it means that the power of computers will grow exponentially, for years and this is easily verified: the first computer took up an entire room and weighed 30 tons… then it shrank, while increasing its capacities, until to today where you can slip your 2 or 3 kg PC into a backpack…

Moore adds an element to his conjecture: this evolution will come up against a physical limit around 2015, the size of atoms. Except that this time, the hypothesis is not really verified… Because thanks to artificial intelligence – like ChatGPT therefore – we are starting to push the limits of the computer and therefore of Moore’s law. And it’s not over, because the components of computers may soon no longer be electronic, but human… It’s called organoid intelligence, and yes, it sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, but that’s fine real… In this episode of La Loupe, we explain how our cells could revolutionize computing…
