Plenty of summer jobs, but not all jobs are equally popular

There were just over 42,000 summer jobs on the Employment Agency’s job bank during the last Monday in April – plenty of jobs.

– The situation looks good, then there are geographical differences and differences within different industries. In general, we have a higher skills shortage in northern Sweden but also lower unemployment, says Erik Borg, who is a business advisor at the Employment Service in Sundsvall.

Few want to work in healthcare during the summer

At the same time, the pressure from the applicants is significantly greater in certain industries. For example, more people want to work in hotels and restaurants than in healthcare.

– We have difficulty getting summer substitutes, says Maria Strandberg, director of health and medical care in Region Västernorrland.

Competence requirements are increasing

Arbetsförmedlingen states that the requirements for skills among job seekers have increased, but in healthcare it may be the other way around considering that few apply for the many jobs that are available.

– Industries where there are quite a few applicants have a need to lower their requirements, says business advisor Erik Borg.
