Please report potholes: Oxford County

Please report potholes Oxford County

Roads throughout Oxford County are getting bumpier as the days get warmer and spring time nears.

Cracks and potholes on roads are typical at this time of year due to fluctuating temperatures, melting snow, rain and frequent snow plowing.

With this in mind, Oxford County officials are encouraging motorists, residents and business owners to report potholes so county crews can reduce these road hazards and ensure a timely repair.

“I think it’s good that they’re cleaning them up,” said Kim Kramer of Woodstock.

The frequent motorist said the potholes on county-owned roads are “bad for your car.”

“It can throw your car out of alignment … so that’s not good,” Kramer said.

For damage potentially caused by a pothole, motorists are urged to have their vehicle checked by a mechanic and report any potential damage to their insurance companies.

In order to report the pothole, people are asked to include the following information in their submission:

  • Name of the street;
  • Nearest building number;
  • Name of the nearest cross-street;
  • Specific lane (ie, northbound lane, turning lane, etc.); and
  • Approximate size (ie, dinner plate, manhole).

The report can be submitted by emailing [email protected].

The reported potholes are placed in a maintenance list for repairs so that crews fix each pothole quickly, depending on weather and other factors.

Oxford County must ensure its roads are maintained in a good state of repair due to provincial legislation and safety standards, such as the Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways regulation.

Because of this, public works crews regularly inspect and maintain more than 640 kilometers of county-owned roads in the region.
