The French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines (ANSM) is issuing a recall of compression stockings and socks, which have been withdrawn from sale. The people concerned have been notified by mail: they should not use them but return them to the point of sale.
The French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines (ANSM) has announced on its website the recall of socks and support stockings from the company Bauerfeind AG.
What are compression stockings, tights or socks?
Compression stockings, socks or even tights are used to compress the legs, in order to improve venous return. They are prescribed to certain pregnant women or to patients suffering from different pathologies, such as venous insufficiency, edema or in case of risk of phlebitis.
Products recalled due to potential defects
These stockings marketed by Bauerfeind AG are being recalled due to an incident at their manufacturing site. Roofing work has been carried out and “small metal shavings fell into some production areas of the company.”
So there is a risk that these metal shavings will be “have fallen in isolation in production and that products have been contaminated“, details the ANSM press release published on July 25, 2024. Tights, stockings and socks can therefore cause skin friction for those who wear them.

These medical devices are usually sold in pharmacies or by medical supply stores. These structures have all been notified by Bauerfeind AG.
If the products have already been given to patients, “the recipient must immediately summon the patients and collect the delivered product.” If you haven’t already, please note that you should not use these stockings. Return them to the point of sale for an exchange. The recall procedure runs until August 2, 2024.
