PlayStation 5 Pro Features Announced

PlayStation 5 Pro was introduced with a technical presentation by Mark Cerny. It draws attention with its 16.7 TFLOPs power and new Ray Tracing features.

Sony, new generation game console PlayStation 5 Pro At the technical seminar held for the console, the hardware details of the console were officially shared with the statements of system architect Mark Cerny. PS5 Pro stands out with its 16.7 TFLOPs graphics power, improved Ray Tracing performance and innovative RDNA 2.X architecture. Cerny also refuted the console’s misunderstood “33.5 TFLOPs FLOPflation” claims and focused on the gaming experience enhanced by the new features.

Highlights of PlayStation 5 Pro

PlayStation 5 Pro provides a significant leap in graphics performance by increasing the 10 TFLOPs power of the previous model PS5 to 16.7 TFLOPs. Additionally, it reaches 300 TOPS for 8-bit operations and 67 TFLOPs for 16-bit operations. The console’s new Ray Tracing technology is supported by the BVH8 (Bounding Volume Hierarchy) structure. Unlike BVH4 used in PS5, ray tracing calculations become faster and more efficient thanks to BVH8.

The new Ray Intersection Engine has the ability to compare rays with 8 boxes and 2 triangles. This improves lighting effects, especially on reflections and curved surfaces. However, gains in shadows and flat surfaces are more limited.

The RDNA 2.X architecture, which Sony customized with AMD, is inspired by RDNA 3, but maintains compatibility with existing games. In this way, the need for code rewriting is eliminated. Additionally, placing the L3 cache chip under the core complex ensures direct contact of the processor with the heat spreader, improving cooling performance.

PlayStation 5 Pro will be released in 2025 and aims to offer players a smoother and more visually impressive experience with its new Ray Tracing features. However, the PS5 Pro is thought to be a controversial option among gamers due to its price and limited innovations.

Sony’s new console could impress PS5 users by providing better visuals and more consistent frame times, especially in performance modes. Still, some gamers may prefer to wait for the PS6’s release.
