Then we receive Thomas Naim for the album release On The Far Side. Rare and precious is the guitarist who finds happiness without being offered the opportunity to shine as a soloist. Thomas Naïm is of this species, a special case without a doubt. Traveling companion of Youn Sun Nah, Hindi Zahra, Mayra Andrade or Hugh Coltman, he likes to slip into the shadow of the greats to weave webs of light on their melodies. Jazz, he loves it and he knows it, it’s the basis of his language. A great admirer of Grant Green, in love with Kenny Burrell and Wes Montgomery, he follows with as much passion the journey of his contemporaries (Blake Mills, Julien Lage, Anthony Wilson) as well as that of his elders (Marc Ribot, Bill Frisell, Ry Cooder …)
When Thomas designs On The Far Side, he imagines a sound, an adventure, a group before even considering the place he himself will find in it. His compositions evoke imaginary landscapes, a cinematographic universe that reminds us as much of Sergio Leone as Tarantino, David Lynch or the arid lands of the Breaking Bad series. On this new album, Thomas Naïm welcomes trumpeter Erik Truffaz and saxophonist Laurent Bardainne, among others. Art direction Daniel Yvinec.
