Players with 3,000 hours in Apex Legends complain about the new change in negative reviews on Steam

There is trouble with Apex Legends: EA is changing the Battle Pass model. Instead of paying $0 per season, players are now supposed to pay $20 for the Battle Pass. They don’t like that at all. Even players with 3,000 hours of play in the shooter are punishing Apex Legends with negative reviews on Steam, but a boycott that was announced doesn’t seem to be happening.

That’s the problem: We reported on MeinMMO yesterday about the change to the Battle Pass in Apex Legends:

  • Until now, frequent players could practically buy the Battle Pass in Apex Legends for free using the currency AC, because they earned new currency for the next Battle Pass when they completed the current one.
  • But now you can only buy the Battle Pass with real money
  • There are also 2 of the passes, but with easier to earn rewards
  • In practice, this means that while frequent players previously spent $0 per season to obtain and play the Battle Pass, they will soon have to pay $20 to stay at the same level.

Some negative reviews on Steam are coming in for Apex Legends

This is the effect that: Many Apex Legends players have expressed their displeasure on Reddit and Twitter.

As a result of the now typical “review bombing” on Steam, the recent reviews have dropped to “Balanced”:

  • On July 8, 479 negative reviews arrived
  • On July 9, there were 1,448 negative reviews – about 10 times more than on a normal day
  • In the reviews people write specifically:

  • “Very good Battle Pass update, makes my uninstall button spin,” writes a player with 1,280 hours on Steam.
  • “This is a hard no from me to a two-battle pass and only cash meta,” writes someone who has spent 3,093 hours playing Apex Legends on Steam.
  • One player with 3,000 hours even says: “GARBO GAME” – which means “garbage game”.
  • So are people going through with the protest? Not really. It is not yet measurable or really provable.

If you compare the player numbers on Steam, you don’t see any measurable drop beyond normal fluctuations:

  • On July 7 (before the trouble), 148,000 people were logged in at 2 p.m.
  • On July 8th, at 2pm, there were 151,000 people on Steam
  • On July 9, there are 149,000 people
  • Even one of the Steam reviewers, who had spent 3,087 hours in the game when he vented his anger, has spent another 6 hours in the shooter since the time of the review.

It seems to be one of those cases where people announce that they will stop playing Apex Legends immediately and never play it again, but these effects are not yet measurable or have become a reality. We will certainly see in the next few days how many players actually go through with the protest. At the moment, it does not look as if EA is really feeling the anger of the community: players are threatening to delete Apex Legends from their hard drives because EA is “improving” the Battle Pass.
