Players think the start of a new season is the best time – “Everyone walks around with butter knives and burlap sacks”

Since its release, the community has been criticizing Diablo 4’s endgame, saying it’s boring and repetitive. But now some players say that the path to it is actually much more fun anyway.

The endgame of Diablo 4 has been criticized by players since its release. Heavy players in particular were bored with the content available to them at higher levels. Season 4 turned the endgame around and players said that the endgame finally had a good balance and was even fun.

On Reddit, many players are now realizing that they actually enjoy leveling up and building their character much more than grinding for the last few percent of their stats.

Why is the start of the season the best time? At the start of a new season, players create a new character that they level up and continue to build up. They farm loot and XP, become stronger and gradually unlock all the content in the game:

  • At the beginning you play on world level 1 or 2
  • As soon as you feel strong enough, go into the dungeon to unlock world level 3
  • At world level 3 you loot and level up until you are confident enough to unlock world level 4
  • With World Level 4, most of the endgame begins: Nightmare Dungeons, the Pit, Bosses, and the Hell Hordes that have been around since Season 4.
  • In a post on Reddit on August 4, “four-elephants” explains that he finds leveling more fun than the endgame. He likes improving equipment while leveling more than looking for the perfect stats on each item. The endgame is too complex for him anyway.

“It’s better to try out cool builds than to grind too much”

What does the community say? A majority of the players who are talking in the comments of the thread seem to see it the same way. “Backstab_Bill” writes: “I don’t think I like leveling per se, I like building a character.” “ThisTimeAtBandCamp” responds that it’s really fun to take a build through the individual steps to the final version.

“mobofob” also thinks that developing a character is the most important thing. “I like how things change as you level up and how there are different phases,” he writes. And “faildoken” thinks that mastering is a massive grind. He prefers to look for a “cool build” that he has never played before and take it from 1 to 100.

To get your game characters from level 1 to 100, here are a few tips:

“Ackooba” has an explanation for why leveling is more fun for many than the endgame:

Leveling feels good because it is the most generic progression system in any RPG. You get stronger directly by killing monsters, rather than in the endgame where you kill mobs for mats and then [Werte] re-roll to become stronger.

In a comment, “WTFlippant” writes that he also likes leveling the most:

I really enjoy the start of a new season. Everyone is armed with butter knives and wears burlap sacks for armor. It’s the only time world bosses are actually fun. Good times! So yes, in some ways I prefer leveling.

The world bosses in particular have been criticized several times. In the endgame, where many players have powerful builds and strong equipment, the big bosses literally fall over after a few seconds. With Season 5, this has apparently been resolved, although it remains to be seen what effect the change will ultimately have: Diablo 4 hides a huge change in a tiny subordinate clause, suddenly making Season 5 much harder
