Players think the game is boring – “It’s already dead”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The Call of Duty: Warzone 2 community talks about the current state of the game. There is a lot of criticism and it is even said that the title is already dead.

What is this discussion? The content creator TrueGameData deals with statistics on games in the CoD series. On Twitter, he opened a discussion about the state of Warzone 2 and said: “Imagine how bad it would be for the Warzone streamer community if there were no nukes.”

The content creator is alluding to the fact that many streamers are currently filling their broadcasts by trying to reach the “Nuke” killstreak. Unlocking a nuke presents a special challenge.

Players criticize: “Warzone 2 is boring”

What are the players saying about the state of the game? In the course of the conversations resulting from the post, some players made harsh judgments about the shooter’s condition. For example, Twitter user StarHunter96 writes: “It’s already dead (via Twitter).”

The discussion also made it to reddit, where coone90 writes: “Warzone 2 is boring.” He then asks what changes the reddit community would like to see in the game. The post collected 850 upvotes and over 1,000 comments within 19 hours (as of January 11, 1 p.m.).

Reddit user Destroyer6206 also draws a negative conclusion: “The only reason the game isn’t dead is because it’s new […]. The game isn’t alive because it’s good, it’s because people are fucking optionless (via reddit).”

What does the MeinMMO community say? We wanted to know from you in a survey in mid-November what you think of Warzone 2 and how you like it. In total, the poll received 2,109 responses, with results being fairly even. The most voted answer was “poor”, closely followed by “very good”.

  • Mies: 21.48%, 453 votes
  • Very good: 20.96%, 442 votes
  • Mediocre: 20.25%, 427 votes
  • Good: 17.88%, 377 votes
  • Poor: 14.46%, 305 votes
  • Perfect: 4.98%, 105 votes
  • The comments under the survey also showed that there are both fans and critics of Warzone 2. For example, Masked Ruin writes that he does not like the fact that cosmetic content from Warzone 1 was not adopted.

I don’t see it, playing the second part after you’ve already paid for cosmetics in Warzone and they aren’t even taken over. It’s just cosmetics and nothing else. Very poorly resolved, in my opinion.

MyMMO reader Daniel, on the other hand, loves Battle Royales and thinks it’s great that the shield system in Warzone 2 is similar to that of Apex Legends.

So I love BR [Battle Royal]. Before Warzone 1, it was Apex. […] I think it’s brilliant that they have taken over the shield system from Apex a bit. For example, I can now see immediately whether the opponent is wearing a triple vest.

The gaming experience of MeinMMO reader VValdheim, on the other hand, was less positive and he summarized the rounds he played with the statement:

Didn’t feel like fun for a second. Probably just not my genre and too old for it […]. For me it was nothing.

However, some time has passed since the last survey and so we want to know from you again what you currently think of Warzone 2. Do you still play it or is the shooter too boring for you? Would you like changes?

Players want higher time-to-kill and 1v1s in the Gulag

What changes do players want? On reddit, some Warzone players respond when asked what changes they would suggest.

The reddit user jdebby thinks the map is okay and doesn’t mind that the slide cancel was removed from the predecessor. Still, he thinks Warzone 2 should do everything else like Warzone 1. As an example, he cites a higher time-to-kill, 1v1 fights in the gulag and the old ping system (via reddit). The comment received 1,900 upvotes.

Another player on reddit wants a ranked mode, a weaker aim assist and a re-join feature if the game crashes – Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are known to have been struggling with technical problems since their release and the developers had over 120 bugs fix.

How dead is Warzone 2 on Steam and Twitch?

Warzone 2 player numbers? As the comments on Twitter and reddit show, some Warzone 2 players feel the game is “dead”. But what about the player and spectator numbers? To answer that, let’s look at the SteamCharts analytics platform, which tells us the player numbers of games on Steam.

There, Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 combined have reached a maximum of 123,912 players in the past 24 hours. CoD competitor Battlefield 2042 is 8,701 in the same period.

While we can’t use the numbers to tell how many players Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 have, since both games are presented together, we get a rough overview of the current state of the game.

The total number of players will be even higher, since the game can also be played on Activision-Blizzard’s in-house launcher Battle.net as well as on the consoles. Especially on PlayStation, CoD is considered a strong franchise, which is why Sony is fighting Microsoft’s planned takeover of Activision Blizzard.

Warzone 2 Viewership: Twitch gives us another insight into the state of Warzone 2. There, according to SullyGnome.com, the shooter is still in the top 10 most watched games in the past 7 days and had an average of 63,863 players during the period. This puts Warzone 2 ahead of titles like Fortnite, Apex Legends and PUBG: Battlegrounds.

The EFT-Like “DMZ” mode in particular could play an important role in the future of Warzone 2. It attracts players like MeinMMO author Dariusz Müller who don’t like battle royale shooters.

I was never able to do anything with Warzone, but thanks to DMZ I now spend many hours in CoD
