Almost every modern multiplayer game has some form of emotes, which are short animated actions that characters use to perform a greeting, gesture, or dance. Helldivers 2 is no exception. Emotes are useless in most games, but in Arrowhead’s co-op shooter, a specific emote can save you from death.
How do players protect their friends from death? In Helldivers 2 there is an emote that allows you to hug another player. This hug can protect you from certain death for a short time – for example if a hell bomb explodes next to you.
Of course, just a hug can’t save you. One of the two players needs a shield generator backpack. This creates a round barrier around the wearer that protects them from attacks while active.
The Shield Generator Backpack is one of Helldivers 2’s current meta builds, so it’s very likely that you’ll find someone in your lobby wearing the backpack. In order to protect another player from an explosion, for example, you have to pull him into the shield of your shield generator backpack using the hug.
All you have to do is press the emote button and your brave soldier will spread his arms and expect a warm hug. Another player does not have to have the emote equipped themselves, but can return the hug with a simple press of a button.
YouTuber Standard-Ace demonstrated this heartwarming strategy in a 34-second video:
Players are touched: “Damn, that’s cute.”
What does the community say about this? Many Helldivers 2 players comment under StandardAce’s YouTube video how great they think this is and praise Helldivers 2 for it.
Even weeks after its release, many players are still having fun with Helldivers 2 and enjoying little things like a hug emote that can save you from death.
Some fans of the co-op shooter are already waiting patiently for new content and are looking forward to future updates. We already know that Mechs will soon expand your tactical equipment.
But there are also hints of what else could come. Here you can see an overview of all the content that was officially announced or unofficially shared with the community by data miners: Helldivers 2: Roadmap – Everything about the mechs, the armored vehicles and the new enemies
