Players kill the Gandalf from D&D because he gives so much EXP

In Baldur’s Gate 3, players have discovered that they can defeat one of the most powerful characters to receive a large amount of XP.

Who is the person you are talking about? It’s about Elminster, one of the most outstanding and powerful characters in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. He is a magician of extraordinary strength and wisdom – in a way, he can be described as the Gandalf of D&D. In Baldur’s Gate 3, he plays a crucial role in Gale’s story.

Players have the opportunity to meet Elminster as early as the end of Act 1. Despite his humanoid appearance, the Elminster that appears in the game is a construct (image of him). Curious and just for fun, they probably decided to just attack him and see what happened.

Players kill Elminster for 1,000 EXP

What happened? In a recent post on Reddit, player Dizak55 shares his encounter with Elminster during a multiplayer campaign with friends. The group, which has already reached level 6 at this point, decides to challenge Elminster out of curiosity and jokes. He suggests, “How about we quick save and try to kill a level 20 mage?”

Despite the legendary Elminster’s obvious superiority and the fact that they are up against a level 20 mage, they decide to attack him. They actually expected to be destroyed – but they defeated him.

Dizak55 writes:

Through a few lucky rolls and the fact that there are no 9th level spells in this game, we actually managed to overpower him and take him out.

We went from level 6 to almost level 7 in a single battle. Now I want to tell Gale to get lost in all future playthroughs just so I can get that sweet, tasty 1K XP.

Is 1,000 XP a lot in Baldur’s Gate 3? It’s a lot of experience, which is also due to the level of Elminster’s image. As Dizak55 described, they gained almost an entire level (from level 6 to 7) through the fight. Normally it takes a while and you have to do a few quests and not just defeat one enemy.

Is there also loot? Elminster (the construct) leaves no loot behind, but instead liquefies into a pile of water.

Why is he so easy to defeat? The image of Elminster has experience level 20 in Baldur’s Gate 3, but at level 20 it has no access to the spells that you can get after level 12 in D&D – i.e. spells of the seventh to ninth level. Because they don’t normally exist in Baldur’s Gate 3.

The exception is probably bosses. In Act 2 you will meet a boss who has access to a 7th level spell. Maybe he simply didn’t have access to it because the construct isn’t the real Elminster.
