Players in Zenless Zone Zero were no longer allowed to look under their characters’ skirts; Developers withdraw update

In Zenless Zone Zero, an update caused agents to disappear if you wanted to look under their skirts. This caused anger in the community – and the developers rowed back.

After Honkai Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero is the latest game from HoYoverse, the studio behind the successful action RPG Genshin Impact. On December 18th, the developers released version 1.4 update into the game. And that caused a huge outcry from the community.

In the afternoon, the developers announced in a post on X that they had been monitoring the feedback. You want to respond to the feedback immediately. One piece of feedback was about the female agents in Zenless Zone Zero and incorrect rendering when viewed from a certain angle. Or specifically: if you looked under their skirts.

Agent disappears into a certain camera angle

What was wrong? In update version 1.4, the patch notes specifically state: “When viewed from certain angles, the agent appears faded.” This adjustment apparently ensured that the agents in Zenless Zone Zero have completely disappeared.

You can see a short video about it in a post on X:

“Worrying change”

What was the feedback from the players? In a post on Reddit, a user describes the change in update version 1.4 as “worrying.” The post has garnered over 3,300 upvotes. Individuals commented that the change “ruined” their day. And others post screenshots of their agents, who can only be seen faded in the angle. Assumptions range from possible censorship regulations to the idea that the scenes should be better seen without the agents.

What was changed then? On X, the developers announced on December 18th that they had “responded promptly to feedback received.” This included adjusting the agents when viewed at a certain angle.

The post states: “Fixed an issue in version 1.4 where the fading effect of the ‘Agent appears faded when viewed from certain angles’ setting would not display correctly under certain circumstances.”

The change that the developers announced on X is well received. Users comment that they are happy that the response here is so quick.

In another game, the focus is often on characters who are presented with revealing skins and “shaky physics”. But one figure is now sending a clear message: Anyone who tries to look under her skirt will be put in their place.
