Players complain about the character creator of Dragon Age: The Veilguard

The new Dragon Age: The Veilguard attracts tens of thousands of players, many of whom are happy to invest time in creating the perfect character. But it’s not that easy with the character creator in the game. MeinMMO provides tips if your character looks too angular for you.

This is how the new Dragon Age arrives:

That’s the problem with the characters: BioWare has apparently decided to change the graphic style with the latest Dragon Age. All characters have distinctive faces, which critics often compare to Disney films or even directly to Shrek.

Even players who praise The Veilguard have noticed this: many reviews complain about the impossibility of creating reasonably soft-sculpted or feminine-looking characters.

MeinMMO has taken a close look at the character creator and has some tips for you on how you can remove the edges from the faces – at least as far as possible.

The most important options in the Character Creator

First of all: completely round, soft faces are not possible in The Veilguard. There is a certain comic style underlying it and you cannot change it in the game. However, there are a few options that you can consider when creating it.

Your most important tools for a softer look are head shape and head width. However, the head shape is extremely confusing because you have to choose three from 30 different templates and then merge them. Our tip:

  • The heads 12, 7 and 9 combine to create a fairly soft, round basic structure.
  • In particular, a tendency towards shape 7 ensures a more rounded shape even with other heads.
  • Alternatives can be heads 1, 17 and 29 – but here the chin is a little more prominent.
  • The head width setting is hidden in the “Forehead and Brow” sub-menu. The top control determines how “full” your face looks. The further you go towards 100%, the rounder the face becomes.

You will then want to work on the complexion. This determines how strongly the details of the face are emphasized, regardless of skin color. One of the “soft” complexions is best suited and even better than the “youthful.”

You should now have a good and significantly less angular foundation. In the options for cheeks and jaw as well as for the chin you will find the important settings to ensure more softness. When it comes to cheek options, you should especially look at the gauntness slider, which even covers some bone options.

By the way: You can customize your character in the game at any time. Simply travel to the lighthouse and stand in front of the mirror.

Tip: Changes the lighting, the default background is not good

If you still feel like something isn’t right, then your lighting is probably just not right. In the Character Creator you will find a selection of four different backgrounds at the bottom right.

By default you will be standing in a purple room with the Veilguard logo. But that doesn’t reflect the game world. If you choose the beach as lighting, you will see that the missing shadows make your face look significantly rounder. The same applies to the foggy village.

Use these two lights to adjust details. This will give you a better idea of what your character looks like in cutscenes.

Lastly, don’t underestimate how important details like makeup and hairstyles are. The blush is usually a bit exaggerated, but eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara can ensure that you cover up unwanted details on your face.

This also applies to male characters. You can adjust the colors so that they match your skin tone and only enhance contours instead of looking like makeup. But there are no general tips here, you just have to try out what suits you best. You can find further help with the game here: Dragon Age: The Veilguard: 10 tips I wish I had known beforehand
