Players complain about CoD MW2’s shabby New Year’s bundle

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has once again released new cosmetics bundles to its in-game store, and with them was a New Year themed weapon bundle. But the bundle has little to do with good intentions, say some players.

In theory, the holiday season offers fantastic opportunities to bring personal gifts and joy to your loved ones. In practice, there are often voucher cards.

But you don’t want to complain. Whether for Steam, PlayStation or Xbox – you can get rid of the credit somehow. Maybe even in Call of Duty, preferably something colorful.

The selection is large and is constantly being expanded. Recently there is even a weapon bundle to celebrate the turn of the year with fireworks. But the “Tracer Pack: New Years” bundle is so bad that the price stands out between the already crisp price tags.

CoD MW2: 1,800 CoD points for 5 items without an operator

What’s the problem with the bundle? The price is generally already 300 CoD points higher than with similar bundles. For 1,800 points, about €18, you only get 5 items here and 2 of them are weapons.

The highlight of the bundle is a weapon blueprint for the Lachmann-556 assault rifle. The Countdown skin comes with a spark tracer and a confetti grenade launcher. In addition, the skin offers the “New Year Dismemberment” effect – a special kill animation.

However, the “tracers” are not visible bullet marks, but only small sparks when the bullets hit something. The special kill animation is nothing more than a small shower of sparks on the character of a killed opponent:

The effect is called “dismemberment”. The result couldn’t be further from that, however.

Only the grenade launcher with built-in confetti cannon is halfway convincing. However, it still emits normal, monochromatic sparks.

What do players say about this? A lively discussion about the bundle has developed on reddit. One thread has the topic: “Never does this bundle cost 1,800 CoD points. The price must be a mistake with only 5 items”.

Within 19 hours, the thread had a good 1,800 upvotes and collected more than 550 comments. The mood is rather rough because the CoD price policy on reddit has long been a major point of criticism.

Here it is said more often that it is a usual price for such a bundle. The “Tracer” and the “Dismemberment” effect would be quite expensive, even with other bundles.

However, most conversations revolve around the fact that CoD still makes a lot of money with such bundles. The comment with the most upvotes is therefore simply: “People will pay for it”.

Bundles are a separate topic in Call of Duty. Many players complain that CoD MW2 as a full-price title even offers additional content for real money. Others get annoyed when colorful, unrealistic skins come into play. A large group also celebrates the cosmetics and likes to buy them in the shop.
