Players are upset because new skins in Helldivers 2 cost half the price of the game

The new update in Helldivers 2 finally delights players with a new enemy faction. But the players’ good mood now seems to have dampened somewhat. Some fans don’t seem to like the first crossover of the co-op shooter, and that’s because of the price.

What kind of crossover is this? Helldivers 2 has now received its first crossover in a long time. There are skins for Killzone in the game. This is basically the Halo from Sony, which definitely has its fan base. But the series never got really big. The last part appeared in 2013 in the form of Killzone: Shadow Fall.

The skins include a skin for the weapon, armor, helmet, cape, the banner and the logo. If you want to purchase all of them, you pay 1,975 credits. That’s the equivalent of around €20. This is causing criticism from many players, which even the head of Arrowhead has commented on. Arrowhead seems to be experimenting with the uber-store in general, as the first weapon was also last offered there.

Players are unhappy with the price

What do the players say about this? In a current Reddit thread, players are rather negative about the new bundle and the associated price. The weapon also attracts a lot of criticism and costs 600 credits.

The armor is also criticized because it has a strong effect that cannot be found in any other armor. It costs 500 excess credits and gives you 50% damage reduction against gas, acid and electrical damage.

Players tend to express themselves negatively in the thread, which now has over 7,500 upvotes and 1,200 comments.

  • Zakharon (via reddit): Honestly, it should have been a war bond.
  • GoCommitYeetus (via reddit): This is a very bad precedent. This feels like they’re testing water.
  • Another Reddit user is particularly bothered by the weapons: I understand the price increase for the crossover cosmetics due to the licensing […]but having a gun in the superstore is what annoys me. If enough people buy/don’t express their dislike, then AH/Sony will continue to enforce these monetary practices.
  • Many users also say that it should probably be a war bond, but this cannot be officially confirmed. A well-known leaker on x.com spoke of a Killzone warbond a few days before the shop contents.

The goal was clearly not achieved

What does the boss say about this? The CEO of Arrowhead, Shams Jorjani, commented on the topic on the official Discord (via GamesRadar) and said:

First: This is our first collaboration, so we will work it out little by little. Let us know what you would like to see in the future. Second, it’s voluntary – the more we sell, the more Illuminate stuff we can offer for free.

However, he later continued that the goal was clearly not achieved. You want to find a perfect point between the content and the price. Here the CEO seems to admit that the price didn’t hit the mark.

You want to look at the numbers for the current Killzone content. We’ll have to wait and see what future crossovers and new content in the uber-store will look like.
