Players are merciless, except for one

In June 2022, CROWZ launched on Steam, a military shooter with great ambitions: The developers wanted to create a massive Free2Play game that would mix the feel of Battlefield and CoD: Warzone. A year later, in August 2023, the team was faced with the ruins of their game and an angry player base.

What was CROWZ? We presented “CROWZ” on MeinMMO in August 2021, at that time the game was fresh on the radar and wanted to start a beta in December 2021:

  • CROWZ was a military shooter from South Korea developed using Unreal Engine 4. The team already had success in South Korea with “Sudden Attack”.
  • The shooter focused on vehicles such as tanks, helicopters and armed jeeps
  • You could control mercenaries and fight on a large battlefield, for example for resources like Q-on on an open world
  • Official cinematic trailer for the shooter CROWZ

How did it go on Steam then? Not good at all.

  • When the game was released in June 2022, the shooter had 571 players. But they quickly disappeared
  • As early as September 2022, there were only around 200 players online on average and the South Korean team couldn’t keep them up either
  • As of December 2022, CROWZ had already fallen below 100 players and was never able to recover from there
  • Developers quit CROWZ: We will return with better games

This was the devs’ decision: The team decided to end the shooter CROWZ in May 2023 (via steam). It should be over on August 29th.

The team said they have been trying to develop CROWZ “for the love and interest of our mercenaries” since beta testing in November 2021. But decided it was better to end the game. You can no longer offer “better service”.

They said goodbye with “We will return with better games at a later date.” Thanks.”

“Good luck and never come back!”

These are the reactions: The comments on Steam are merciless.

There are some who really liked the game: They are angry at the developers for ruining such a beautiful battle royale game. They accuse the developers of having delivered “one of the worst developer performances ever” and of having led one of the “best battle royale games” to its death in just a few weeks.

Others react with rage, call the developers “frauds” and wish them bankruptcy: “Never make another game, good luck and never come back.”

Others congratulate themselves on never investing any money in the game: CROWZ was “Pay2Win,” they say. An “aggressively monetized game with an endless amount of bugs.”

“The best day of my life when I got the skin with a 1% chance”

CROWZ’s Steam reviews have turned deep red following the announcement of the ending. But among all the angry comments there are a few voices that say: They loved the game and spent many hours playing it. People always waited expectantly for news about the game.

A player writes about the game, which many describe as a pure attempt to make money quickly: He spent all his money so that his dream came true and he got a skin that only had a 1% chance: That was the best It was the day of his life when he got the skin.

He asks the developers not to delete their beautiful game. This will definitely become popular. And if they do delete it, then just not the player accounts.

Steam players’ relationship with games is strange:
