In the MMORPG Guild Wars 2 there is a dispute in the community. Some players try to lose a map event, others just keep winning it despite hints. This is a questionable design decision.
What’s going on in Guild Wars 2 right now? Some players are trying to lose a new event in Orr, the realm of Zhaitan. The event was introduced with the new May 24, 2022 patch and consists of several stages.
The corresponding event is divided into several stages, which can be won and lost separately from each other. Of course, if you play “normally”, you always try to win. However, this is precisely a problem for many others.
Why are players so keen to lose the event? Behind this is an achievement that is necessary to unlock new weapon variants. However, these are only available if the “Risen High Wizard” is defeated during the attack.
For this to happen, a previous step of the event must be lost. Otherwise the boss dies too early and doesn’t count towards the achievement. This is explosive among the fans and causes arguments.
Although many probably just don’t know what it’s all about, there are even said to be players who intentionally sabotage the event. On reddit and Twitter there are complaints from success hunters about fellow players who keep winning the event.
It is particularly annoying that the map event only starts every hour. So if it’s stupidly won, you have to wait. But the problem should be fixed soon.

Bad design excludes players from new cosmetics – developers react
The decision behind this design has been criticized by those affected. You can’t even blame players for winning the event, after all that’s usually the goal. Just having to lose something on purpose is thoughtless.
Screwing something up on purpose is difficult, especially in map events where dozens of players have to coordinate with just a text chat. This currently makes success almost impossible.
Developer ArenaNet has already commented on the problem. They want to change how the new weapon collections are obtained (via Guild Wars forums). However, the patch will not appear until June 7th.
Until then, those hoping for the guns will have to wait or be lucky. But right now, tuning an entire map to lose purposefully seems next to impossible. Especially since Guild Wars 2 has gained a lot of popularity and many newcomers probably don’t know about it:
