Players are annoyed because an attack wipes out their characters – even after respawning

In Diablo 4, characters die for various reasons. One attack is currently particularly annoying to players because it costs their characters their lives – sometimes even multiple times.

Some enemies make players roll their eyes in annoyance as soon as they appear. Some players want to leave the dungeon immediately when they see spiders. Back in November, spiders and especially spider hosts were mentioned when it came to the most annoying enemies in Diablo 4.

This is partly due to the poison attacks that your enemies use to attack you. These take away a lot of your life points over time – and since Season 5, sometimes even after the character has died. Some players think this must be a bug and are calling for a revision.

“Death does not remove DoT effects”

Why are the opponents annoying? On Reddit, players are discussing the “poison damage over time” caused by spiders and spider hosts. “yxaltis” says: This season, the damage to game characters seems to be even worse than before:

In fact, it seems to be even worse this season, with health draining at a massive rate, even faster than healing from potions. If your unstoppable skills are on cooldown, you’re as good as dead.

This is clearly a bug, and one that has been around for over a year. Please, can this finally be acknowledged and fixed?

If you are hit by the poison, it gradually deducts life points.

What do other players say about this? Other players also seem visibly annoyed by the damage over time caused by poison attacks. “devindran” reports in the comment under the post that the damage over time (DoT) continues to work even after his character has been revived. This has happened to him several times.

“Apollexis37” also experienced this. He writes: “Had the same problem! And of course I was in a nightmare dungeon and lost two lives at once…” And “MHMalakyte” notes: “This happened to me for the first time last night. So crazy that death doesn’t remove DoT effects.”

The user “krichreborn” says: “Yes, that’s a new bug this season. It’s happened to me twice with my sorceress.” Other players also agree and explain that their characters have died due to the poison DoTs – sometimes several times in a row.

What does Blizzard say about this? It is unclear whether and when the “damage over time” effects will be worked on. Currently, there are at least regular hotfixes that address various errors. And some hotfixes in turn cause further errors, writes Community Director Adam Fletcher on August 12th on X. For example, chests that are supposed to “guarantee items with larger affixes” are currently not dropping any items with larger affixes.

Season 5 started on August 6th and apparently not only brought new content to Diablo 4, but also a few bugs. For example, a weapon had to be deactivated because it had given players millions of XP. Other errors are currently causing an acute shortage of materials. Some mats are used up in large quantities through crafting, while other mats don’t drop at all.
