Players accuse the hero shooter Marvel Rivals of “Pay2Win” and a bug is responsible for this

Players have discovered a bug in Marvel Rivals that makes your heroes weaker. Some fans therefore accuse the hero shooter on Steam of being “Pay2Win”.

What kind of bug is this? Some hero abilities in Marvel Rivals will be noticeably weaker if your game is running at a lower frame rate. This means that some attacks don’t land properly or take longer to kill enemies.

Heroes do more damage at higher FPS

Clips on TikTok and Reddit show how the bug affects the game. Heroes like Wolverine and Starlord attack more slowly during their ultimate and Magik’s dash has a shorter range. These differences are already noticeable when you play at 60 instead of 120 FPS.

The following heroes currently appear to be affected:

  • Doctor Strange
  • Wolverine
  • Venom
  • Magick
  • Starlord
  • The easiest solution to this bug so far is to reduce the graphics quality. If that’s not enough, you would have to get a more powerful gaming PC to compensate for the disadvantage. This is exactly where the Pay2Win accusation comes into play – whoever puts more money into their hardware has an unfair advantage.

No Pay2Win, but still annoying What does Pay2Win mean?

Pay2Win primarily refers to competitive games in which you can secure gaming advantages by using real money. So if you can buy an item that strengthens your character for a few euros, it’s called Pay2Win.

Is this really Pay2Win? According to the definition of the term, this is not Pay2Win. After all, developer NetEase did not intentionally include this advantage to make players pay. In addition, higher FPS always offers a certain advantage in competitive games.

Even if Marvel Rivals shouldn’t be accused of Pay2Win practices, the developers should still fix this bug as quickly as possible. After all, it takes away from the fun of the game when you don’t know whether the other person really played better or just invested more money in their gaming PC.

According to developer NetEase, Marvel Rivals welcomed over 20 million players within the first two weeks. The community celebrates the high quality of the game – despite this bug.
