On Reddit, a user shared his idea of how crimes could be punished in the future in the strategy game Manor Lords. For this, however, he himself is pilloried by history fans.
Manor Lords has thrilled many fans of the strategy genre since its release. Already Twitch streamer and our colleague Maurice Weber says: Manor Lords is THE building game of the future.
There have been some good additions since then, as the game is currently still in Early Access. As our colleagues at GameStar reported a few days ago, a new patch addresses bugs and balancing problems, for example.
But even though developer Greg Slavic Magic Styczeń certainly still has many plans for his game, the players aren’t staying quiet either and are expressing their wishes for the future of Manor Lords here and there.
What wish has now been expressed? In his post on Reddit, user Nucleif expressed his wish that there should be gallows in Manor Lords at some point. He also posted a picture of a gallows on a large platform in the middle of a tranquil village.
Even though some players agreed with him in their comments and generally seem to wish that crimes in Manor Lords could be punished appropriately in the future, most of the comments quickly bring Nucleif back down to earth. One could also say that the user himself was ultimately pilloried for his suggestion.
What reactions were there? “It’s interesting what some people find to be historically accurate,” one user wrote in his comment on the original post. In fact, many users explain in their answers that gallows were not built in the middle of villages and small towns.
The right seemed to be reserved for the king. In addition, they would have been built outside of the city because corpses tended to be left hanging for several days and that was no use in the city. In this way, it was also a good idea to show who has the power at various waypoints, as user Piekentier explains in his answer.
Others, however, explain that crimes in smaller towns and villages were regulated differently at that time. Although punishment by death did exist, other methods were more common at that time – such as imprisonment or being put in the pillory.
So will there be no gallows? Even though many history fans are enthusiastic about how well Manor Lords represents life in the Middle Ages, it cannot be completely ruled out that a few not-so-accurate things might find their way into the game here and there.
Players have to find peace with it
Developer Styczeń himself has already said that you cannot die on every historical hill. “I think it needs to be understood that the foundation of the game is definitely rooted in historical accuracy, but there will definitely be variation in making a game. And many of you need to find peace with that,” he said in his own statement.
Manor Lords already has a public order system that is affected by the unemployed, the homeless or the lack of administrative buildings. It is therefore entirely conceivable that a system of crimes and punishments will be introduced at some point in the future. By the way, a player recently built the perfect village: A player built the perfect city in Manor Lords: With 3,200 inhabitants and only one market
