Player reveals the nastiest method you can use to defeat a boss in Act 3

There is revenge – and then there is really dark retribution in Baldur’s Gate 3. No boss has ever been defeated so badly – because your own mother is involved.

In Baldur’s Gate 3 you have a lot of opportunities to develop freely. You can be a shining hero in shining armor, bringing only peace and good deeds wherever you go. But you can also be a depraved murderer and villain who leads the various characters in the game world to ruin in order to enrich yourself.

Or you can be so cruel that you first kill a character’s mother and then use her corpse to beat up the son. Cheers to freedom of choice.

Spoiler warning: This article is about Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3 and some of the decisions you can make there.

What happened? In the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, Syntactics2411 shared a small clip of him fighting Gortash. This is one of the two big villains that you face in the final act of the game – or join his side as an ally.

Gortash is not a blank slate. The whole plan with the mind flayers was partly built on his crap and his backstory is particularly intertwined with Karlach. He sold the Tiefling to Hell, whereupon the machine was used as a heart and she had to fight for the devils in the arena for years – even though she had trusted Gortash up to that point.

Karlach in particular wants revenge for this betrayal and asks the hero to be there when Gortash gets to his neck – in the best case scenario, she even wants to deliver the killing blow herself.

And that’s exactly what she does in the video shown. She doesn’t just strike, she takes a particularly perfidious approach. She takes the corpse of Gortash’s mother from the inventory and throws it at her son – causing enough damage to defeat him.

This kind of cruelty would probably astonish even the Dark Desire.

Who is Gortash’s mother? You can find Gortash’s mother in a rather small house in the city of Baldur’s Gate. The Parents aren’t part of an actual quest line, but just provide a little more background information about Gortash. We also learn that both parents are already infected with a mind flayer worm and Gortash ensures that the two remain “trapped” in her body.

It should be noted that Gortash’s mother isn’t exactly the most lovable character you can meet in Baldur’s Gate 3. Because she sold her son to a sorcerer at a young age to avoid high debt – so, strictly speaking, she isn’t exactly the mother of the year.

One can of course debate whether Karlach would really be so cruel as to send Gortash to hell in this way – but hey, in the end it’s a very creative (if unnecessarily cruel) way to defeat Gortash, which only came about because of the huge freedom of choice in Baldur’s Gate 3

In the end, everyone has to decide for themselves whether this freedom should really be exploited to this extent.

Another player, however, has rendered Karlach almost useless – perhaps better if you know what else she does.
