Player orders AMD graphics card on Amazon, receives the wrong model twice – but the second time he can hardly believe his luck

A player buys a graphics card and gets the wrong GPU several times. But the second time he is very lucky.

A gamer ordered a Radeon RX 7600 on Amazon for a new gaming PC. This is an entry-level graphics card with enough performance for Full HD.

Which graphics cards did the user get? Instead of the graphics card he ordered, he received two completely different graphics cards

  • The first time he got an RX 6600. This is the predecessor of the RX 7600 that he had actually ordered.
  • The second time, however, he gets an RX 7800 XT. We consider the RX 7800 XT to be one of the best graphics cards you can buy.
  • At least he got an AMD graphics card every time and always from the same manufacturer (XFX).
  • He himself writes:

I’m building a PC for a friend, we ordered a (RX) 7600 QICK 308 and it [Amazon] sent a 6600 Swift 210 the first time. The replacement arrived today and it is a 7800 XT QICK 319. Both are marked as 7600 QICK 308. I accept a free upgrade.

How big is the upgrade? The Radeon RX 7600 is an entry-level graphics card that is primarily limited by its small video memory of 8 GB. The GPU is usually sufficient for Full HD.

The RX 7800XT is AMD’s current mid-range and offers more than enough performance for WQHD (1440p) and also has twice as much video memory at 16 GB. The user therefore received a WQHD card instead of a Full HD GPU. And that’s a really strong upgrade, even if it wasn’t planned that way.

What happens to the first incorrect delivery? The buyer has to send these back because otherwise Amazon would want them paid for. He didn’t get a free graphics card, but “only” a free upgrade. But from a technical point of view it was at least worth it.

By the way, such a free upgrade is not completely safe. Normally the buyer should report the incorrect goods to the seller. This is explained by the well-known lawyer Christian Solmecke. This is what he says (via Rundschau-online.de):

If the seller has mistakenly delivered too much, you are obliged to inform him. Otherwise you could get into legal problems. If it is an error, you must proceed as described above. If you sell, give away or dispose of the item, the entrepreneur can demand compensation.

Orders on Amazon may not always be as successful as they were for this user. A family ordered a graphics card on Amazon and got a fake product instead. It took almost 5 months for Amazon to take back the wrong card:
