In Diablo 4’s hardcore mode, you permanently lose your player character if he blesses the time. This happened to a player – but not through a nasty boss or a stupid mistake.
This is the hardcore mode:
How did the player lost his hero? In a post on Reddit, Daemon-Au reports on February 26, 2025 that his player character was killed by his mercenary Subo. The new mercenaries came into play with the first expansion, Vessel of Hatred and should support you in combat. In this case, Subo has taken over the opponent’s job.

“You can no longer trust your mercenary”
How can this happen? The player suspects that this is related to faulty witch power. The witch powers are the new mechanics in Season 7. One of them, twilight protection, creates a barrier that absorbs damage – and from 12th place she reflects opposing projectiles.
At the end of January it was speculated in another Reddit thread that exactly this ability could be bugged. Zuulbe wrote in the comment: “Yes, I believe that twilight protection is completely buggy on higher mines. I think the reflected damage kills us myself. “
Blizzard confirmed the bug on February 14, 2025 in the Patch Notes and announced a fixed: “A problem has been fixed in which twilight protection could lead to players harm. This force is reactivated as soon as the update goes live. ” Patch 2.1.2 came into play on February 18.
It remains unclear whether the error continues to exist or that Daemon-au has lost its heroes in hardcore mode for another reason. In any case, the screenshot in the post clearly shows: “Daejavu was killed by a subo.”
Many agree on the comments: exactly such bugs are the reason why they prefer to avoid hardcore mode. There are simply too many errors and connections that can transport your own character into the hereafter. Cellar yeast jokes: “You can no longer trust your mercenary these days. Rip. “
If the mercenaries do not add damage to you due to bugs, they are a useful addition to Diablo 4. On top of that, the mercenaries bring their own dealer with them, where you get important mats. You can find out more about this here: If you lack important mats in Diablo 4, you should not overlook a dealer
