In Final Fantasy XIV, one player spent nearly two years and over 800 hours completing the most difficult solo challenge, defeating the Palace of the Dead as a simple druid, all by himself.
How did it become successful? Even though the new expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, Dawntrail, was recently released, there are still players who prefer to focus on the old content.
One of them is Aurora. The content creator has made it his mission to overcome the most difficult challenges for single players.
The Palace of the Dead has been on his agenda for a long time. The dungeon is different every time you enter it and offers groups of 1-4 players increasingly difficult challenges the further you go down. You will encounter a boss enemy every 10 floors.
From level 101 onwards, the dungeon can no longer be entered with a random group because it is so difficult. But Aurora doesn’t need a group anyway.

The challenge lasts almost two years
How many attempts did it take him to succeed? Aurora completed the challenge on her 62nd attempt. “I spent almost two years of my life climbing the Palace of the Dead alone every day as a druid,” he wrote in his post on X.com.
While 62 attempts doesn’t sound like much, the hours of play for this challenge add up to quite a bit more: “I lost over 800 hours doing this. I canceled so much to make these streams possible. July 14, 2024. 62nd attempt.”
Angelus Demonus, another player known for his runs of deep dungeons such as Palace of the Dead or Sky Pillar, praises the druid player’s performance on X.com: “The dedication to his craft is unmatched.”
Is this his first challenge? No, Aurora always tries solo challenges, but this was his hardest yet. In a stream, he explained that he only needed one attempt to beat the Celestial Pillar dungeon. The dungeon works almost exactly like the Palace of the Dead.
Now that Aurora has gained some time, he can devote himself to the latest content in Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail.
