Rockstar Games is giving away mugs, t-shirts and a jacket
Why is the player receiving the gift box? The YouTuber landed in Rockstar Games’ spotlight for amassing almost 6,000 hours of gameplay in Red Dead Redemption 2 on Google Stadia. The platform will be retired after today, January 18, 2023.
Now the development studio thanked him for this commitment and sent him a gift box filled with RDR2 merchandise such as mugs, posters, T-shirts and a jacket.
The YouTuber posted a photo with all the contents of the gift box on Twitter. We embed the tweet here:
YouTuber feared for his progress
Here’s how Rockstar Games found him: On September 30, the YouTuber publicly asked on Twitter if Rockstar Games could allow one-time transfers of RDO accounts. He also posted a screenshot of his almost 5,900 hours of play in RDR2 at the time.
The background to his frustration was clear: Color played RDR2 on Stadia and Google announced the day before that the cloud gaming service Stadia would be terminated after 3 years. In addition to the tweet, the YouTuber also published a video on the subject, fearing that he would lose almost 5,900 hours of RDO progress.
The story of Color and the possible loss of his in-game progress then went around the world and some news sites picked up the story. Rockstar Games complied in October, allowing Stadia players to transfer money, gold bars, XP, reel XP, and tokens to an existing PC, Xbox One, or PS4 account.
The shutdown of Stadia unexpectedly caught many gamers who have invested many hours of play and money into the platform. This also includes MeinMMO author Jürgen Horn, who wrote down his experience at the end of September:
I put €1,000 and all my hopes in Google Stadia – now it’s all for naught
