Player feels unfairly disadvantaged, demands a change from Blizzard

The zoom factor has occupied Diablo 4 players at least since release. One player revisits the issue and describes how he feels extremely limited in his view range – especially when it comes to ranged attacks, which are an integral part of his build.

Even before the release of Diablo 4, the zoom factor was a point of criticism for some players, because the camera perspective is not only important for exploring, but also for a good overview in battles.

A player has recently taken up and criticized the topic in the Diablo 4 subreddit.

What’s his problem? On Reddit, user Fictionarious wrote on July 26 that he would like to zoom out further when playing Diablo 4. He feels limited in his view range and build, especially when it comes to ranged attacks.

To get the most out of your build, be sure to enable these settings:

“I don’t want the effectiveness of my build to fluctuate that much.”

In particular, when Fictionarious walks north and south through the open world, he feels very limited in his field of view:

Another FoV option on the old scroll wheel that allows for more vision than the two currently available. Specifically so that if I move north, I’ll be more than nine feet [ca. 2,7 m] can see ahead of me, and as I move south, more than seven [ca. 2,1 m] or so can see.

[…] You know, since I’ve been accumulating those coveted Distant Enemy Damage stat buffs, I want my build’s effectiveness not to fluctuate that much when I decide (or am forced) to move south in one Game with a fixed camera perspective.

Why is this a problem for him? Especially in fights it is important to have a good overview. With ranged attacks by enemies, you often don’t know who is attacking and with what. To see that, you have to get closer to the action in Diablo 4.

In addition, Fictionarious thinks it’s a good idea to be able to temporarily hide the skill bar, as it also interferes with his field of vision. He’s using the Distant Enemy Damage buff and wishes his build’s effectiveness didn’t fluctuate due to the reduced view range.

However, changing the zoom is not easy: a fixed zoom ensures that the game is fair for everyone. The entire game world is designed for this camera.

“The ‘Horse Cam’ would be perfect for normal play.”

How is the community reacting? User ohlawdhecodin comments that gamers with a 21:9 widescreen monitor have an advantage. “I’m not saying it’s unfair because it’s a cool thing. But the game already allows you to see “more” if you have a wider screen. I see no reason why we’re limited to the current zoom setting.” (via Reddit). For this he gets almost 300 upvotes.

TobiasTX writes: “And on the horse it even zooms out. The ‘horse cam’ would be perfect for normal play.” (via Reddit). uwotm8_8 jokes, “They want you to see your characters up close so you can buy cosmetics.”

User Mutex70 adds that many of Diablo 4’s design choices make more sense “if you put them in the context of ‘we want to make more money.'”

The zoom factor was also an issue in yesterday’s Campfire Chat. The question of whether something will be changed on the zoom could not be answered in this round. But that should possibly be taken up again in the coming streams.

But there are some changes and improvements coming with patch 1.1.1:
