Player farms a boss for 3 months, but it was the wrong one – “What did you do so stupidly?”

Killing the wrong boss 96 times in World of Warcraft only to realize you can’t get the mount. That’s how it works – but others also make funny mistakes.

There are a lot of ways to kill a lot of time in World of Warcraft. No matter whether you’re chasing the best equipment, the prettiest transmog dress or the perfect mount. Some of these rewards are so rare that you can search for them for weeks or months without ever getting them.

But what’s greater than the frustration of simply not being able to get the mount you want? Correct. After 3 months you realize that you didn’t kill the right boss.

What happened? In the WoW subreddit, player Mr_pattybean shared his little, somewhat shameful story. He has spent the last 3 months farming the Al’ar’s Ash mount. To do this, he went into the “The Eye” raid to kill the boss. Week after week, over 3 months, with a total of 8 characters per ID.

The catch: He only ever killed the first boss, which is Al’ar. But it doesn’t even drop itself as a mount.

What kind of mount is this? We are talking about the “Al’ar’s ashes”. This is the first Phoenix mount that was added to the game back during The Burning Crusade. Because of the name, some players assumed that the Ashes of Al’ar would also be dropped from the first boss Al’ar – a false assumption. In fact, only Kael’thas, the final boss, drops the mount with a very low chance.

This is what the community says: In the post, many people are amused by this error, but some also report their own stupidity, which has caused them to lose a lot of time in World of Warcraft.

  • “Back when the game came out, I leveled my warrior up to level 42 before I figured out what talent points were…” – StreiBullet
  • “I’ve been playing since Vanilla and only learned during Dragonflight that when you bind the Hearthstone you can also choose the direction the character faces for the Hearthstone Port” – g0ng1985
  • “I started late in Burning Crusade and created a night elf hunter and named her after my friend. I got her to level 40 before we parted ways. Now I had to stare at a character with the name I didn’t want to be reminded of. This was before paid name changes, so I kicked her off Teldrassil and played a blood elf rogue after that.” – weirdfresno
  • “I played as an herbalist for the first TWO YEARS of this game and always kept my eyes peeled for plants – until a guildmate told me that you could activate ‘Discover Herbs’ on the minimap…” – trollied
  • Have you done any stupid things in World of Warcraft that you’re really ashamed of afterwards? Or have you escaped it so far?
