One player has set himself the goal of calculating the size of a new map in Monster Hunter Wilds. The result is impressive.
Monster Hunter Wilds will be released in 2025, but the anticipation continues to grow. Recently, more and more weapons for monster hunting have been introduced, and the stand at gamescom attracted numerous interested fans.
More and more material about the game is appearing, and more and more people are getting the chance to try the game out. You can read all about the release of Monster Hunter Wilds here.
One player took advantage of the new findings and wanted to know exactly: How big will the new maps be in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Player simulates a running path in Monster Hunter Wilds – with exciting results
This was the experiment: The user “Boun” shared his experiment on X.com, with which he wanted to calculate the size of the new map “Windward Plains”. He used the Monster Hunter World map “Wildspire Waste” as a comparison.
To compare the sizes, the user looked for a running sequence that was as linear as possible, which was probably not that easy since basically everyone uses the new feathered mount Seikret to move forward.
When he finally found it, he tried to recreate the sequence in Monster Hunter World and then marked it on the respective maps. This gave him a rough idea of the scale of the track and thus deduced the size of the map.
His result shows a Wilds map that is significantly larger than the World model. You can find the post here:
What do you have to consider? It is still relatively imprecise, since the exact speeds of the compared fighters do not have to be the same, and things like underground areas are not included here.
But in principle the calculation is probably roughly correct, because it matches the statements made by the developers.
What do the developers say about map sizes in Monster Hunter Wilds?
How big will the maps be? In a preview and interview by IGN, there was already talk of maps that were about twice as big as in previous games. That would also fit with the result of the user above, where the map is about two and a half times as big.
In an interview with MeinMMO chief editor Leya Jankowski, the developers also briefly talked about the new game’s large maps. Various things have been revised, such as the entry into the game, which players found difficult or “which they have problems with because the map is now so much bigger and it may be easier to get lost,” said producer Ryozo Tsujimoto. The new map can therefore help with navigation, for example through autopilot.
This “much larger map” is set to be well filled. Executive Director Kaname Fujioka said of the desert map “Windward Plains” from the example: “There are dunes in the desert, but it’s not just made of sand. There is also a lot of variety within the desert area, such as caves that you can explore, cliffs and savannahs. There is definitely variation within the same environment.” So it shouldn’t be boring to go on a tour of discovery – even if the maps are noticeably larger.
