Wizards don’t have it easy after the start of Diablo 4 Season 1 – they’re considered weak and got a new unique that’s more meme than helpful. But with exactly this staff, the first players are now building builds that actually work.
What is this item? It is “The Oculus”, a two-handed wand and the new magician’s unique item in Season 1.
While all classes got a semi-cool unique, wizards have this weird bit that turns “dodge” into a “teleport” that teleports players to random locations. Useless in an action RPG like Diablo 4, right?
As it turns out: not quite. A few die-hard wizards took a closer look at the thing and especially in connection with the special mechanic in Season 1, the Wicked Hearts, a real build can be built with the crazy wand.
However, the risk of headache, dizziness and nausea remains.
You can watch the trailer for the current season 1 of Diablo 4 here:
Why does the staff work in Season 1? A powerful buff for your own defense can be obtained via the Wicked Hearts. 30% damage reduction after a teleport, which contributes noticeably to your own survivability.
Additionally, some shoes provide an ability that reduces the cooldown of Dodge by 1.2 seconds when using a skill. Since wizards are constantly throwing magic around, the random teleport is pretty much always available.
User “AthamaSDeaD” has shared his experiences on Reddit and shows: Even with an incomplete and thrown together build, you can easily run nightmare dungeons at level 80 that are 15 levels above your own:
AthamaSDeaD relies on critical hits and plays a Blitz build for the caster.
In the thread, players then also report who point to expanded endgame builds for the Oculus. For example, a build by YouTuber “BlackHeart86” including Paragon specs. The English video for the build can be found on YouTube (via youtube.com).
Some users also think: In connection with the strongest item of Season 1, the powerful and annoying “barber”, a reasonable build could currently be made from almost all skills anyway.
What do users say about it? The mood in the thread is pretty good. There are even a few users who seriously give the impression that they want to try the wizard with Oculus. Here are a few comments from the Reddit thread:
It’s nice to see that magicians don’t let the game spoil their fun despite a few nerfs. You can find out which builds are popular for the magic class here: Diablo 4: The 3 best builds for the magician in Season 1 at a glance
