Player blames Fortnite for how stupid shooters like CoD look today

There are a ton of crazy skins in Call of Duty and other shooters these days. One player says Fortnite is to blame.

What kind of discussion is this? Shooters like Call of Duty, PUBG and The Finals now offer numerous skins that players can buy or unlock for their characters and weapons. Many of these skins are… extraordinary.

Shooters have long since ceased to have a purely realistic, dark or even tactical aesthetic. Many players not only have colorful skins, but also completely bizarre costumes.

A new bundle for Call of Duty could take the absurdity of today’s skins to a new level. One player criticizes this development on X.com and blames Fortnite: “The damage that Fortnite has unintentionally done to the aesthetics of multiplayer games is irreversible.”

The post has now garnered over 44,000 likes and is therefore receiving a lot of approval among shooter gamers on X.com.

By the way, the next CoD will be Black Ops 6, here you can see a trailer:

Chicken skin upsets players

What kind of damage does the player mean? Fortnite has been characterized by collaborations and more or less crazy skins for years. For users, the Battle Royale shooter from Epic Games has set the ball rolling for absurd skins in other games as well.

In the comments under his post, he makes it clear that he has nothing against Fortnite. He is simply talking about the influence that Fortnite has had on the aesthetics of other games through its skins. He describes this influence as: “Ahh yes, let’s equip every game with such weird and bizarre cosmetics until everything is just one big blog with indistinguishable mush.”

The criticism is therefore: Fortnite has successfully sold strange skins and other games have adopted this and thus replaced their own style with the Fortnite aesthetic.

Which skin are you talking about exactly? X.com user and dataminer “realityuk” posted a video on the social network on June 29, 2024, showing a new skin and weapon inspection – including a fancy animation.

According to him, the skin is called “Extra Crispy”. During the inspection animation, the player puts a chicken on the barrel of the “HCR 56” and fries it by firing the weapon. The finished fried chicken is then eaten by the character.

However, if you play Call of Duty on a PC or console, you don’t have to worry, according to the data miner: Extra Crispy will only be released for the mobile version of the shooter. If you believe the leaker, the crazy skin will be released on July 18, 2024.

How do you get the skin? According to “realityuk”, you can’t just buy the bundle in the shop, it’s only available through a so-called lucky draw. A “lucky draw” is the random drawing of an item in Call of Duty: Mobile. The system is similar to a wheel of fortune mechanic. You spin the wheel and the game randomly determines which item you receive.

You have to buy one spin of the “Lucky Draw”. The price doubles after each spin. After a maximum of ten spins you receive all items. Depending on the package, the converted price of a piece of content can be over a hundred euros if a player needs all ten spins for the desired item.

You can now also play Battle Royale shooter Call of Duty: Warzone on mobile devices, Warzone Mobile was released in March 2024. In the version for Android and iOS you can even level up the weapons of the PC and console versions: CoD Warzone: You can now level up your weapons even when you are not at home
