Cyberpunk 2077 will be polished up with update 2.0, followed by the Phantom Liberty expansion on September 26th. If you are now wondering whether you should start playing or wait for Phantom Liberty, you will find help in making your decision here on MeinMMO.
With Update 2.0, the base game has already been expanded to include some content: the skill system has been updated, the cyberware has been brought up to date and some new mechanics have been integrated into Cyberpunk 2077.
Although there are only a few days left until the release of Phantom Liberty, the question arises: should you start the game with update 2.0 or wait for the expansion?
3 ways to (re)start in Cyberpunk 2077
In principle, the decision depends on what your status is regarding Cyberpunk 2077. Will you return to the game after some time – maybe even years? Are you just starting out now, with no previous experience? Have you played through the base game, or are you still stuck in the middle?
For returnees and multiple players
If you have already played through Cyberpunk 2077, it is a good idea to wait for Phantom Liberty if you want new quests and a new story. However, if you would like to get an impression, you can do that now.
You can bridge the time until the expansion by redistributing your skill points, looking at the revised crafting, the cyberware and the new police system and trying out builds.
This would give you a good basis for Phantom Liberty and allow you to fully concentrate on the new story, the new tasks and the new area from the release. If you’re the kind of person who plays through games multiple times, now would be the perfect opportunity.
For newbies
Since there are only a few days left until the release of Phantom Liberty, it’s a good idea to get into Cyberpunk 2077 now and play through the main story. This gives you some time to familiarize yourself with the mechanics before you head into the new Dogtown area.
Up to Phantom Liberty you have the opportunity to complete a few side quests in addition to the main story, collect money for cyberware and upgrade it, level up your skills and explore Night City.
For the particularly curious
With the release of Phantom Liberty there is an option to jump straight into the new content and that is a blessing for everyone who is incredibly curious about the new quests and the new area. And it doesn’t matter how far along you are in Cyberpunk 2077 at the time.
You have these options:
The developers’ tip is as follows in a tweet from September 19th:
Hey, Chooms! Although you can continue the game with a current character in an existing save file, we recommend starting over after Update 2.0. Due to the multitude of changes, a restart will improve your overall gaming experience!

If you skip the main story without having already played it, you will of course miss out on a lot, especially since update 2.0 already introduced many changes.
MeinMMO author Sophia says: Cyberpunk 2077 was a good game with errors. But with 2.0 it finally gets really damn good:
