Developed by Theresa Noon-Hunter and her friend Kristen Henderson the school – 20 Performing Arts Academy – will provide instruction in all aspects of musical theater.
“We’ve been friends for several years and we both have a lot of experience in the arts,” Noon-Hunter said. “We’ve been talking about doing something like this off and on over the years and after doing a bit of research decided it was time.
“We think there is a real need for something like this in the community.”
Noon-Hunter said the academy will cover both on and off-stage roles that are essential to live musical theater.
“Most people associate musical theater with the performers and that’s natural,” Noon-Hunter said. “But there are plenty of creative roles off-stage as well.

“There’s costuming, lighting, set building and choreography – all the things that help the magic of theater production come alive.”
The academy is open to students from Grades 6 to 12.
“It’s an opportunity for young people to embrace, explore and grow their theater arts creativity,” Noon-Hunter said. “The whole idea is to help nurture young talent.”
Registration for the academy is in progress and will continue until all of the spots are filled. Plans call for the academy to begin instruction in September at the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead in St. George.
The focus of program will be to stage a production of Fame in December. The show follows the final class of New York City’s celebrated high school for the Performing Arts from their admission to graduation.

All of the struggles, fears and triumphs are depicted with razor-sharp focus as the young artists navigate the worlds of music, drama and dance.
Noon-Hunter said the show provides great opportunities to feature a diverse talent pool and showcase artistic mediums like dancing, singing, acting, rapping and musicianship.
The performances will be held at Sydenham-Heritage United Church in Brantford on Dec. 6 at 7 pm and Dec. 7 at 2 pm and 7 pm
