Planned assassination of Trump stopped by the FBI

In September, Iranian agents tried to assassinate Donald Trump, a plan that was stopped by the FBI. The plan to assassinate the then-presidential candidate was discovered when the United States Federal Police interrogated an Afghan man who had been deported from the United States in a telephone conversation. It appears in documents filed in a court in Manhattan in New York.

Iran planned to assassinate Trump

The man told the interrogation that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard contacted him in September and then gave instructions to plan in seven days how an assassination of Trump could be implemented.

“Few actors in the world pose as great a threat to the national security of the United States as Iran,” says Attorney General Merrick Garland in a statement.

When the murder plans were never staged, the orderers must have postponed the plans until after the election. The Revolutionary Guard reportedly did not believe that Trump would win, and that it would thus be easier to assassinate him then.

Two men arrested

Two men, who were arrested, were recruited by the man to carry out attacks against people in the United States who are critical of Iran. However, they are not charged with the plans against Trump.

The man who revealed the plans lives in Tehran, according to the FBI. He was sentenced in 1994 to a longer prison term for robbery and deported in 2008.

“Iran’s Revolutionary Guard is a foreign terrorist organization, has conspired with criminals and professional killers to shoot Americans on American soil, and we will not tolerate that,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement.
