A plane crash occurred in Brazil, in the state of São Paulo. All 62 people on board died in the accident.
The accident occurred on Friday, August 9. A passenger plane carrying 62 people, including 58 passengers and 4 crew members, and traveling from Cascavel, in the state of Paraná (South), to Guarulhos International Airport, in São Paulo, reports The Parisian. According to local sources, including firefighters and Brazilian airline Voepass Linhas Aéreas, none of the people on board survived.
Local media cite witnesses and BNO news shows a video of the event. The aircraft, a Franco-Italian ATR 72-500 model, can be seen spinning in the sky while falling very quickly. This movement is far from usual for an aircraft, which alerted the direct witnesses of the scene, the residents of the city of Vinhedo, which has 76,000 inhabitants and is located 80 km northwest of São Paulo. They all managed to take shelter since only material damage has been reported on the ground for the moment.
Lula reacts
After this tragedy, the country is in mourning. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva quickly reacted on X: “Very sad news. All my solidarity is with the families and friends of the victims.” The emergency services also reacted quickly and teams of firefighters as well as military police and civil defense of the State of São Paulo were deployed in the Capelé neighborhood, in Vinhedo. For the moment, the reasons for the crash are not known. It is not known whether it was a human or material failure, or some other cause. This will be determined by the investigation.
