An expensive discovery on the electric car

For a German Tesla owner, however, the bill became significantly more expensive than that, after the workshop made an unpleasant discovery under the car. It reports Efarher.com.

The car in question is a Tesla Model 3 from 2020 whose lease expired in July 2024.

When the customer handed in the car, the workshop found, among other things, a scratched rim, but when you looked under the car, you discovered something much worse.

Have to pay SEK 158,000

What was found was that the jack mount was “porous” and cracked”. What’s worse is that the battery pack is damaged and needs to be replaced.

The bill for the repair landed at 13,700 euros, corresponding to almost 158,000 kroner, which the leasing customer must pay.

Lifted the electric car incorrectly with a jack

The leasing company believes that it is the customer himself who has caused the damage by lifting the car with a jack without using special rubber pads between the car and the jack.

However, according to Efahrer.com, it is not completely clear either in the car’s owner’s manual or on Tesla’s website. It’s also not the first time a jack mount on a 2020 or 2021 Tesla Model 3 has been the subject of a dispute.

Already in 2022, Efahrer.com reported on a similar case, and then Tesla only repaired the damage cosmetically. In that case, the leasing customer was not responsible for the cost.

Regardless of who is to blame for the damaged lifting point on the current Tesla, it is obviously extra important to be careful when jacking up your electric car. Otherwise, it quickly becomes an expensive story.
