Pixels are no longer the only smartphones that can take advantage of the Magic Eraser, this incredible photo editing tool from Google. The function becomes accessible to everyone, on Android and iOS… provided you pay a subscription!
Google traditionally reserves functions for its in-house smartphones, the Pixels. This is the case of the magic eraser tool, available in Google Photos, which appeared with Pixel 6 in the fall of 2021. This very practical function makes it possible to remove an unwanted element from a snapshot in a few seconds. A lamppost, a red light, a person… everything that can spoil an image is erased thanks to the artificial intelligence which is responsible for recreating pixels from those appearing around the deleted object. The result is just as fast as it is stunning. This function is no longer reserved for the brand’s smartphones today. Any Android or iOS mobile can take advantage of it… provided you have a subscription Google One (except for Pixel owners regardless of the model). This paid service (from 19.99 euros to 249.99 euros per year) allows you to take advantage of additional online storage space (from 100 GB to 5 TB) and share it with five other users. It also allows you to take advantage of Google’s VPN. Another interesting function: the possibility of applying an HDR filter to the videos in order to make them brighter and better contrasted.
How to Use Google Photos Eraser on Android or iOS?
Already have a Google One account? The magic eraser is then at your fingertips even if you don’t have a Google Pixel. Here’s how to use it.
► Start by checking for an update of the Google Photos app from the Google Play Store or the App Store on your mobile. Update the app if offered. Then launch Google Photos and display the image presenting an item to be deleted and press the button Edit at the bottom of the screen.
► Scroll through the options located at the very bottom of the screen until you reach the section Tools. The magic eraser presents itself. Press it.
► With your finger, highlight the element of the image that you want to erase.
► As soon as you lift your finger, the selected item disappears. Magic !
► If you are not satisfied with the result, press arrow pointing left at the bottom of the screen. The operation is then cancelled.
► On some shots, as soon as you launch the magic eraser, a quick analysis of the image is carried out in order to automatically offer you suggestions for deleting elements. If this seems relevant to you, press Erase everything.
► Detected items disappear immediately.
