Highly anticipated product conferences often leave observers hungry after months of speculation and rumors that go unconfirmed. For once, Google went beyond expectations by multiplying announcements, including about novelties that no one had anticipated, at the opening of its conference Google I/O.
After a first part devoted to innovations for Google Maps, Google Search or even theartificial intelligencethe teams in charge of consumer equipment entered the arena.
Pixel 6a: a mid-range that looks formidable in photos
Google has taken to taking advantage of its annual event to unveil the more affordable version of its smart phone pixels. In this case, it is the Pixel 6a which not only inherits the original aesthetic signature of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro but also part of their technical sheet. We find the Tensor processor developed by Google, a reader offingerprints under the screen secured by the chip Titan M2, an 8 megapixel front camera and a compatibility 5G. the pixel 6a offers a screen OLED 6.1 inch full HD+ refreshed at 60 Hz while the Pixel is based on a 6.4-inch FHD + 90 Hz Oled panel while the 6 Pro climbs to 6.7 inches LTPO 120Hz QHD +.
The (good) reputation of Pixel smartphones is largely built on their photographic performance. The Pixel 6a receives a dual rear photo module, with a sensor 12.2-megapixel main wide-angle (the same as last year’s Pixel 5a) and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle. We can expect that the formidable efficiency of the treatment software developed by Google makes the Pixel 6a a very good photophone. At 459 euros, it could even become the new benchmark among mid-range Android smartphones. Pre-orders will be open from July 21 in the United States. The date for France has not yet been confirmed.
Pixel Buds Pro: active noise reduction and long battery life
The “pro” version of Pixel Buds A-Series, of which we appreciated the very good value for money, was expected. With the Pixel Buds ProGoogle acquires a pair of headphones Bluetooth to active noise reduction (RBA) high-end that it lacked to compete with the AirPods Pro, Sennheiser TW3 and other Sony WF-1000XM4. The Buds Pro contain a six-core audio processor that runs algorithms that analyze the sound environment and adapt the intensity of noise reduction accordingly.
Google announces up to 11 a.m.autonomy on a load with RBA active. The charger case can provide up to 31 hours of battery life. It is compatible with wireless charging. The Pixel Buds Pro have a mode transparency which allows you to hear the world around you without removing them and a multipoint connection which can associate them with several terminals at the same time and switch automatically from one to the other. Google also announced an upcoming update that will enable a spatial sound feature available with compatible Pixel smartphones. It is not specified if the Pixel Buds Pro are water resistant, but the opposite will be surprising for high-end headphones. Pre-orders open on July 21 in the United States. In France, the Pixel Buds are announced at 219€.

Since the Pixel 6, Google has decided to communicate upstream on its next generation of smartphones. Yesterday, therefore, we were treated to a preview of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro whose official presentation will take place this fall. No major aesthetic revolution in sight except for the use ofaluminum recycled for the frame and the bar that houses the rear camera. Under the hood, we will find the second generation of the SoCs Tensor which promises better performance for photography, speech Recognition and security. As always with Google smartphones, the Pixel 7 will get the scoop on the upcoming Android 13 update.

Its sleek circular design had been widely circulated in the press in recent weeks. It is equipped with a touch screen and crown to navigate the Wear OS interface. The Pixel Watch can monitor heart rate, sleepmake contactless payment with Google Walletguide step by step with Google Maps or even control certain equipment home automation through Google Home. We will also find the functions of health and fitness of the’ecosystem Fitbit, a brand owned by Google. The great unknown concerns the autonomy which will be a key element in hoping to compete with dignity against the Galaxy Watch of Samsung and theApple Watch. The Pixel Watch will be launched this fall at the same time as the Pixel 7. It is already present on the Google merchant site and should therefore be available in France. The price has not yet been communicated.
A Pixel Tablet in 2023
Despite this already rich roadmap, Google still had a few surprise announcements up its sleeve. The first concerns a Pixel Tablet running Android. Equipped with a Tensor processor, it is presented as a gateway between all Pixel equipment. Its size suggests a screen of at least 10 inches and the back smooth with rounded edges reminiscent of the Pixel 5. Google has not provided more information on this product which will arrive in 2023.
Augmented reality glasses that translate in real time!
Highlight of this presentation, Google unveiled a prototype of glasses augmented reality with integrated instant translation system. The person who door sees the words of his interlocutor displayed in his native language. This is a real change of approach compared to Google Glass releases in 2011, with the aim of providing practical help in overcoming language barriers.
