Pirates of the Caribbean replacement continues and fantasy film in

The Netflix streaming service has made headlines in recent weeks, mainly with cancellations. First the science fiction series 1899 was canceled after just one season, then the popular animated series Inside Job followed. But there is another way, at least if the streamer is satisfied with the numbers. Because the animated adventure film The sea monster with some Pirates of the Caribbean vibes gets a sequel and doesn’t stop there.

More on the Netflix double whammy for Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings fans

The sea monster was released in the summer of 2022 and evolved into the most-watched animated film in Netflix history. That’s why director and Oscar winner Chris Williams (Baymax – Huge Robowabohu) will implement The Sea Monster 2 for the streaming service. The story of monster hunter Jacob and his little companion Maisie should be continued. The story will focus, among other things, on Jacob’s new responsibility as the girl’s foster father.

However, Williams will be working on a second fantasy project for Netflix, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It is about a “original fantasy[-Geschichte]” with a coherent world in the tradition of The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, but with the light mood of The Princess Bride.

There are no dates for the two films yet, we can because of the long production time of animated films however assume it will be a few more years before any of the films come to Netflix.

The sea monster offers entertainment à la Pirates of the Caribbean

For hundreds of years, a war has raged between the sea monsters in the ocean and the people who navigate the world’s seas. While the huge underwater monsters try to sink big ships, brave heroes hunt down the beasts and kill the dangerous attackers. This also applies to the crew of Captain Crow’s “Inevitable”, which includes his future successor Jacob Holland. Only at the threat of “Red Bluster” have they bitten their teeth so far.

Meanwhile, on land, orphan Maisie Brumble dreams of going out and fighting sea monsters. She secretly sneaks on board as a stowaway. That long hunted in vain red monster slaying it, however, is no easy task
