The sleek, pioneering furniture by Gerrit Rietveld stands next to the furniture of the German ex-Emperor Wilhelm II, decorated with ornate silver fittings and wooden inlay, in Huis Doorn. The contrast couldn’t be greater. The 1920s saw major changes, both technical and cultural. Some changes were embraced by the ex-emperor, but others he balked at. The exhibition Life in a momentum goes back to that time.
