Pierce Brosnan played the iconic secret agent James Bond in four films. However, in an interview he was critical of his portrayal of the role and explained why it was so difficult for him.
Brosnan made his James Bond debut in 1995 with GoldenEye. Tomorrow Never Dies was published in 1997 and The World Is Not Enough two years later.
In 2002, Die Another Day was the last Bond film to feature the actor before Daniel Craig took over and became the new 007 agent.
In an interview with The Telegraph in April 2014, Pierce Brosnan spoke critically about his big role and explained why he couldn’t watch his own James Bond films.

“It’s just never good enough”
Why was the role so difficult for him? “I felt like I was in a time lapse between Roger [Moore] and Sean [Connery] was trapped,” Brosnan explained in the interview.
This made it difficult for the actor to understand the meaning behind the character and portray James Bond in depth.
He continued: “The violence was never real, the brutal strength of the man was never tangible. It was pretty tame and the characterization wasn’t realistic, it was superficial.”
Then Pierce Bronan also admitted that his own insecurities might have played a role and inhibited him.

All of these concerns and insecurities made the actor reluctant to see himself in his films.
Pierce Brosnan explained that it made him feel bad: “I don’t want to see myself as James Bond. Because it’s just never good enough. It’s a terrible feeling.”
