Picked up the sledgehammer – after surprise

On Öland, birthdays are not celebrated in any way. Tobias Bengtsson was the victim of a birthday prank that forced him to take out his sledgehammer and climb onto the roof of a house.
– It was not completely unexpected, he says in Tuesday’s After Five.

Öland is undeniably filled with delight mixed with horror. On his way home to Färjestaden from a spa visit in connection with his 40th birthday, Tobias Bengtsson was prepared for some mischief.

Started at the roundabout

It started in the roundabout when Tobias was on his way home to Färjestaden from a spa stay. Then he saw a sign that read: “Tobbe is turning 40” and which urged people to swipe money.

– I got a swish and thought no more about it. But then it continued to swish, says Tobias.

The day after he first saw the sign, Tobias was up and flipped it, but that turned out to be easier said than done because then someone flipped it back again. Then he decided to go one step further.

– In the evening when it was dark, I took the ax and went up and cut down the sign. Those who drove by there probably had a good laugh.

Furniture on the roof

But it didn’t stop there. Someone had assembled a flagpole, which there were also plans to cast, and hoisted the Manchester United flag at his house. Unfortunate for a guy who supports Liverpool.

– It took a toll, but it was not completely unexpected. It was a friend who turned 40 a few months ago and that’s where it started, so I guess I’m a little part of it.

In addition, there was furniture on the roof. Tobias had to climb up to remove them and take out the sledgehammer to remove the flagpole.

– It turned out to be a little more than I expected.

Thinking of giving again

Right now Tobias focuses mostly on giving back to all his friends who will have time to turn 40 before he himself turns 50.

Can they count on you to crack the prank?

– Yes absolutely. We have to make sure to do that, he concludes.
