Renovation with a price tag
The Nieuwegein municipal council has made 12.6 million euros available for the renovation of the town hall. “We stayed within that,” a spokesperson said. “The amount was not only for the renovation, but also for costs of consultants, investigations and relocations.”
The renovation itself took a year and a half; the design in particular took longer: almost four years. “There was no blueprint for such a mixed program,” says the municipal spokesperson. Never before has a town hall been placed inside a library, as it were; the two usually exist separately.
