(Finance) – Il total market value of the shares in Piazza Affari at the end of 2024 (836 billion euros) grew by 4% compared to the end of the previous year (+12% increase recorded by Italian listed companies). Strong jump in volumes traded for both stocks and shares Italian government bondswhich recorded an increase on an annual basis of 17% and 77% respectively. The trend of companies delisting continues. The number of companies traded on Euronext Growth Milan (Egm) reaches the number of listed companies supervised by Consob on the main list (Exm, Euronext Milan).
These are some of the main data contained in the Statistical Bulletin relating to the second half of 2024 published today by Consob.
The value relative to capitalization at the end of 2024, equal to 836 billion euros, also includes data from EGM, the multilateral trading platform established as an unregulated market for small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as those from the Vorvel multilateral trading system, on which the securities of some smaller banks, including cooperatives and savings banks. As of 31 December 2024, the capitalisation/GDP ratio (based on GDP data available at the end of September) grew to 38.1% from 37.5% at the end of 2023.
The value of trading in shares of listed companies supervised by Consob on national platforms increased by 17% (656 billion euros compared to 562 billion in 2023). The volume of trading in Italian government bonds is increasing (+77%). The value of government bonds changing hands on Italian platforms rose during the year to 8,007 billion euros from 4,512 in the previous year. Trades in bonds of Italian issuers other than government bonds also increased (+5%) and trades in securitized derivative instruments (+44%).
Slightly growing net short positions (Pnc), the indicator that detects the trend of short sales on Italian listed shares, which rose to 1.2% of total capitalization at the end of December (from 0.8% a year earlier). For companies in the financial sector the figure is confirmed at 0.8%.
The trend of companies leaving the stock exchange continues in 2024, a phenomenon that characterizes not only the domestic stock exchange, but all mature financial markets in Europe and North America. In particular, the balance between entries and exits on the main list, Euronext Milan, is negative (-15). Seventeen were registered against two new entries delistingof which two foreign companies.
However, the number of companies with securities traded on theEgmwith a positive balance between entries and exits (+7): the number of listed companies supervised on the Exm is thus reached for the first time.
Overall, it drops to 434 total number of listed companies (supervised) or traded on December 31st on Exm, Egm and Vorvel. Of these there are 419 Italian companies (there were 428 at the end of 2023).
