(Finance) – The Prime Minister, Georgie Melons, flew to Libya to meet with local authorities. The Minister of University and Research also left together with her, Anna Maria Berninithe Minister of Health, Horace Schillaciand to the Minister of Sport and Youth, Andrew Abodi, who, according to what Italian sources report, will sign three declarations of intent in Tripoli with their Libyan counterparts on universities, health and sport. The Libyan Acting Foreign Minister will be waiting for the Italian delegation in Tripoli. Taher Baorand the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Small trees. In Tripoli, President Meloni will meet the Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Mohammed Dabaiba and the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohammed Yunis Ahmed Al-Menfi.
A next stop is planned Benghazi to meet the General of the Arab National Army of Libya, Khalifa Belqasim Haftar. The same Italian sources specify that Italy “is in fact keen to be present throughout Libya, working with all the different Libyan actors” and report that even to Marshal Haftar, Meloni will reiterate the importance of advancing the political process, preserving the unity of Libyan institutions, and to work to put an end to the presence of foreign forces on Libyan soil.
With Marshal Haftar, the Prime Minister will also discuss the reconstruction of Dernahit in September 2023 by a devastating flood, recalling Italy’s immediate commitment, through the Armed Forces, Civil Protection and humanitarian aid, and underlining how the Italian business world can offer valuable skills for the reconstruction activity.
The approach to Libya, as to other North African nations, is a 360° approach that involves the entire government, the Italian sources added. “It’s the principle of Mattei Plan which aims to create egalitarian partnerships around concrete projects identified by mutual agreement. The Ministers involved in the visit will therefore go to Tripoli with concrete proposals to deepen the already existing cooperation”, they underlined.
Among the topics that will find space in the Prime Minister’s meetings there will also be the cooperation bilateral that on the subject of phenomena migratory. “This is now a consolidated cooperation that has produced significant results”, highlighted the Italian sources, adding that President Meloni will underline “the need to continue on the path started, further expanding the cooperation, also from a regional perspective”.
The Italian sources therefore reported that the meetings will also be an opportunity for President Meloni to reiterate Italy’s commitment to the stability of Libya, also by supporting the mediation efforts of the Nations United which will have to lead to presidential and parliamentary elections. A commitment that also moves at an international level, with the main European and Atlantic partners, to promote a unified and non-divisive approach of the international community towards Libya. In particular, Meloni has personally committed herself to strengthening the dialogue between European Union And Libyaalso within the framework of the Government’s broader effort for a new paradigm in relations between the EU and North Africa.
