It was November 24 that Börje Salming, after a period of ALS disease, died at the age of 71. Since then, tributes to the former hockey icon and love for the family have poured in.

The Salming family unveiled Börje Salming’s street sign
In honor of Börje Salming, it was decided in Kiruna to name a street after him. Matojärvigatan, where Salming grew up, will now go under the name Börje Salmings gata, and on Sunday the street sign at the Ice Hotel in Jukkarjärvi was unveiled.
Salming’s brother was present at the ceremony Stig SalmingMrs Pia Salmingthe children Teresa Salming, Rasmus Salming and Anders Salmingas well as several grandchildren.
– It is honourable, of course, but it will take a while to get used to the fact that it is not Matojärvigatan anymore, Stig Salming told Expressen after the ceremony.

Stig Salming: “Shocked that it happened so quickly”
During the ceremony, Pia Salming had to wipe tears from her cheeks several times and she was then comforted by the family, who now want to draw attention to ALS and the research required so that more people can live with the disease.
– I’m shocked that it happened so quickly and you didn’t get to do what you wanted and then you have to try to hold it together now. It is difficult, says Stig Salming the newspaper.
