Photoshop Generative AI feature

Thanks to the Photoshop Generative AI feature, users will be able to seamlessly expand and resize images.

In May, Adobe integrated the Firefly family of generative AI models into the beta version of Photoshop, allowing users to expand, shrink, or add content to images with simple text hints. Adobe is now planning to bring a new update.

Photoshop’s innovative Generative Expand feature

On top of these updates, the company introduces a new feature, ‘Generative Expand’, allowing users to seamlessly expand and resize images.

Seamlessly resize images with Generative AI

To resize images using Generative AI, Photoshop users must first click and drag the Crop tool and expand the canvas that way. Next, clicking the ‘Generate’ button in Photoshop’s contextual taskbar will fill the new empty space with AI-generated content that seamlessly integrates with the existing image.

According to Adobe, this feature is particularly useful if the subject is partially cropped, the image is not in the desired aspect ratio, or a focused object is not aligned with other parts of the image.

The best part about Photoshop’s Generative Expand is that it can add content to any image even without text hinting. In the absence of clues, Photoshop simply fills the expanded canvas with AI-generated content in line with the existing image.

It was also noted that when using a hint, the expanded content will always contain the items specified by the user. “With Generative Expand, you can spend less time editing and experiment and adapt your images to suit your own creative needs,” says Adobe about the new AI feature.

New updates of Photoshop worldwide

In addition to Generative Expand, Adobe has announced another development that will benefit many creators around the world. Features now supported by Firefly in Photoshop will support text hints in over 100 languages. This is a welcome change that will make Generative AI text hints available to many creators around the world, which previously only worked with certain languages such as English.

Those who want to try Generative Expand will need to update their Photoshop app. Because Adobe states that this feature will only be available in the latest beta version. The company also promises to bring more creative tools to users, planning to bring more generative AI features to the app this fall.
