Photogallery closes down after 28 years

“Unfortunately, we have reached the end of the road, there will be no new exhibitions,” says Rolf Adlercreutz, chairman of Galleri Kontrast, on the website of the Swedish Photographers Association.

The reasons include high rent, the recession making photography sell poorly and a changed media market.

When the gallery opened, ten media companies were behind it, but today there are only five.

The form in which the closure takes place will be decided at an upcoming general meeting.

“Regardless of what happens in the future, we are incredibly satisfied with what we have achieved all these years,” says Rolf Adlercreutz.

The company, Kontrast AB, is owned by the Press Photographers’ Club.
