The new allegations made in the 9th month of the war between Russia and Ukraine froze the blood. The allegations that Russian soldiers raped and sexually abused Ukrainians received wide coverage in the world press. A United Nations (UN) report published last month said there is evidence that Russian soldiers have committed dozens of war crimes since the conflict began in February.
ALLEGED ‘SEXUAL ATTACK ON CHILDREN AND WOMEN’
UN investigators also uncovered numerous cases of sexual abuse and violence. Cases include allegations of torture and castration of Ukrainian POWs, as well as allegations of sexual abuse of children and rape of women. However, UN staff are still investigating the extent to which atrocities have reached a “pervasive pattern.”
Speaking at the Conference on the Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflicts, Zelenski’s wife, Olena Zelenska, said she had no doubt that such horrific incidents were a tactical decision.
“THEY ARE TALKING ON THE PHONE WITH THEIR RELATIVES”
“Sex-related crimes are not just about violence or threatening people, it’s actually another weapon in their arsenal. That’s why it’s so important to recognize them as war crimes and bring all the perpetrators to justice. Sex crimes are committed systematically, and Russian soldiers do this with their relatives,” Zelenska said. They are talking on the phone,” he said.
ALSO SUPPORTS WIFE: RAPE WOMEN
Ukraine’s First Lady, claiming that the tapped phone calls showed that the wives of Russian soldiers encouraged rape, said, “They say to their wives, ‘Come on, rape these Ukrainian women, just don’t share this with me’. “I hope there is an answer from the free world to everything that is happening in Ukraine right now,” she said.
On the other hand, along with Zelenska, representatives of 70 countries attended the Conference on the Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflicts.
The organizers said evidence shows that up to 30 percent of women and girls in conflict-affected areas are subjected to sexual violence.
British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said: “Sexual violence in conflict is a clear violation of international law. We will not back down from our efforts to protect potential victims and prosecute perpetrators.”
On the other hand, Zelenska later met with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s wife Akshata Murty at number 10.
