Philippe Lafeuille liberates the genre of CarMen

After the popular success of “ Tutu » his previous project, the choreographer Philippe Lafeuille and his company « Chicos Mambo » revisit with humor and fantasy, the opera « Carmen » by Georges Bizet.

It is the most performed opera in the world. It’s also a playlist of hits, each more well-known than the last, engraved in the collective memory: “ Carmen », by Georges Bizet, libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, adapted from a short story by Prosper Mérimée.

So we saw and heard Carmen, in all kinds of productions. But a bald and bearded Carmen, her hairy chest showing, who sings the Habanera in her head voice, I had personally never heard. It required the energy, fantasy, humor and talent of the dancer and choreographer Philippe Lafeuille and his company, “ Chicos Mambo » to revisit Bizet’s work with a 100% male cast, and offer in just one hour, a joyful comedy-ballet that takes your breath away and chases away many stereotypes.

The show is called “ Car/Men » takes place in the Théâtre Libre arena until February 3.

Philippe Lafeuille is the guest of VMDN.
